A Harmonious Blend of Modernity and Timelessness

Project Architect / Design / Building Consent / Consultant Coordination

In the picturesque lakeside locale of Rotoma, the “Lake House” (work in progress) is a masterpiece in the making. This northwest-facing gem offers expansive, idyllic views of the lake and biophilic vistas of the bush to the northeast. The client’s vision was clear - create a modern yet timeless, tasteful yet affordable retreat that honours their deep connection to the land—a place where they spent countless holidays basking in the sun and enjoying water sports.

The design features three distinct, barn-like structures with elegant hip roofs, forming a harmonious ensemble. These structures cocoon a private internal courtyard and are connected by a sheltered flat-roof entryway. The layout includes a Bedroom Wing to the south, a central Lounge/Kitchen Wing to the west, and a generous Garage Wing modestly tucked behind the kitchen to the east.

Expansive deck areas to the north and east of the Central Wing facilitate seamless indoor-outdoor flow, offering the perfect spots to chase the sun or find shelter from it. From the kitchen and dining areas, these decks connect to future landscaped spaces and a proposed path leading to the lake—ideal for future generations skipping stones or simply enjoying the idyllic landscape.
